High-Demand Residential Solar PV – Hemel Hempstead

Residential | Willow Lane, Hemel Hempstead

Overview

The project at Willow Lane presented a unique energy challenge: a detached property with exceptionally high power demands.

Operating as a fully electric home with no gas supply, the property also requires the continuous operation of a 24-hour heated therapeutic pool. This combination created a significant baseload, making energy efficiency not just a preference, but a financial necessity.

Synergy PV Renewables was tasked with designing a system capable of offsetting these intensive running costs.

We installed a highly efficient 7.2 kWp solar PV system, specifically engineered to capitalise on the property’s ideal conditions.

By leveraging a perfectly south-facing roof with minimal shading, we ensured that the home achieves exceptional generation figures year-round, easing pressure on the grid and powering essential therapeutic facilities with clean, self-generated electricity.

Performance

This installation goes beyond standard household usage. The system is critical for supporting the continuous, 24-hour heating of the on-site therapeutic pool, a facility that would otherwise incur massive utility costs.

By maximising on-site renewable generation, the homeowners have significantly reduced their reliance on the grid for these heavy loads. The optimised design ensures that even with a high daily consumption profile, a substantial portion of the home's energy needs, heating, pool filtration, and general living, is met by free solar power.

System Overview

To meet the high output requirements, we selected premium hardware and leveraged the site's natural advantages:

  • Panel Array: 16 x 450W high-efficiency solar panels, totaling 7.2 kWp.

  • Strategic Positioning: The array is mounted on a perfectly south-facing elevation. This orientation is crucial for maximising "peak sun hours," ensuring the system delivers consistent power throughout the day.

  • Site Conditions: With minimal shading from surrounding trees or structures, the system operates at near-optimal efficiency, converting maximum available sunlight into usable electricity.
