Integrated In-Roof Solar & Battery Storage – Harpenden

Residential | Bamville Woods, Harpenden

Overview

For this project in Bamville Woods, Harpenden, the brief was uncompromising: the homeowner required a powerful renewable energy solution that would blend seamlessly with the property’s traditional architecture.

The goal was to transform a classic slate roof into a modern energy asset without the visual clutter often associated with bolt-on solar panels. This required a fully integrated ‘in-roof’ approach, where the panels sit flush with the roofline rather than floating above it.

Working with slate presents significant technical challenges, particularly for GSE integration systems, requiring extreme precision to ensure weatherproofing and durability.

Our team navigated these complexities to deliver a flawless, cable-free finish that looks as good as it performs. The result is a discreet, high-performance system that maintains the property’s curb appeal while housing a massive storage capacity, proving that heritage aesthetics and modern energy independence can coexist perfectly.

Key Facts

Annual Savings

Performance

The system is projected to generate approximately 11,800 kWh of clean energy annually. This translates to substantial financial benefits, saving the homeowner roughly £5,200 per year with an estimated payback period of under five years. Over a 25-year lifespan, total savings are expected to exceed £126,000.

Environmentally, the impact is equally impressive. The installation will offset around 75 tonnes of CO₂ over its lifetime, roughly equivalent to removing 32 petrol cars from the road, allowing the homeowners to make a major contribution to sustainability without compromising their lifestyle.

System Overview

To achieve the high energy yield required, we installed 34x Aiko 460W panels, creating a total array size of 15.6 kWp.

The generation is managed by a 10.5 kW Fox ESS hybrid inverter, ensuring efficient conversion and management of power loads.

Crucially, the system is paired with a massive 41.4 kWh battery storage solution.

This exceptional storage capacity allows the home to run almost entirely on stored solar power during evenings and cloudy periods, maximising self-sufficiency.
